Birds of Bolivia

Bolivia is home to over 1400 birds, making up 14% of the world’s avian population, and is also the sixth most diverse country in terms of bird diversity. This can be attributed to the various habitats available in the nation, ranging from the Andean mountains to the banks of the Paraguay River.

The national bird of Bolivia is the Andean Condor. Other common Bolivian birds include the Andean Cock-of-the-rock, the Blue-throated Macaw, and the Swallow-Tailed Hummingbird.

Bolivia’s diverse ecosystems make it a wonderful place to photograph birds or see them in their natural habitat. Popular sites to go birding include Madidi National Park, Sajama National Park, and Noel Kempff Mercado National Park. The dry season from May to October is the best time to experience what Bolivia has to offer. But if one is willing to put up with a bit of rain, they may be able to hear a wide range of vocalizations between November to April.
