Animals with Antlers

As opposed to horns – which are bony structures covered with keratin – antlers are not only made of bone but also cartilage, tissue, and skin and have blood vessels and nerves running through them. Also unlike horns, antlers are not permanent. All antlered animals shed and re-grow their antlers on an annual basis.

Antlers exist in members of the family Cervidae, i.e., deer, moose, reindeer, and elk. The only exception is the water deer, which lacks antlers entirely.
