Birds of Indiana

The Indiana Bird Records Committee (IBRC) enlists over 420 birds in the state. The three extirpated species include the whooping crane, gray partridge, and greater prairie chicken.

The northern cardinal has been designated as Indiana’s state bird since 1933. This bright red songbird occurs in Indiana all year round.
