Over 400 species of birds live in Romania. The country is host to environments like mixed forests, wetlands, and mountains, allowing for greater avian diversity.

Two birds are considered national birds of Romania – the Golden Eagle and the Great White Pelican.

Some of the best places for birdwatching in Romania include the coastal areas of the Black Sea, the Retezat National Park, and the famous Danube Delta. The last one is a UNESCO World Heritage site famed for the variety of water birds that visit there, including herons, egrets, and pelicans.
