Turtles in Oregon

There are only two species of freshwater turtle native to Oregon – the Western Painted Turtle and the Western Pond Turtle. However, two invasive species also live in the state, which compete for resources with the native species – the Red-eared Slider and the Common Snapping Turtle.

However, these aren’t the only aquatic turtles found here, as several saltwater turtles also make their way to Oregon during the summer.
