Various birds of prey, like eagles, falcons, hawks, owls, kites, and vultures, are native to Florida. The American kestrel, the nation’s smallest falcon, is a typical winter visitor to southern Florida. Other birds of prey found in the Florida Keys region are the peregrine falcons, Swainson’s, and short-tailed hawks. The rough-legged hawk is a large raptor that winters in northern Florida, while southwest Florida is home to the bald eagle. The swallow-tailed kite looks beautiful in flight with its forked tail. The images of the birds help in their identification.
