California had about 676 species of birds per the California Bird Records Committee’s list published on the 7th of July, 2021. Of the many birds dwelling here, two of them, the island scrub-jay and Yellow-billed magpie, are endemic to California.
You would find pretty birds throughout the state, though California Towhee, Allen’s Hummingbird, California Scrub-Jay occur more in northern California. Whereas, the house Finch, Allen’s Hummingbird, and spotted Towhee mostly inhabit the southern part of California.
The California quail, or the valley quail, has been California’s official state bird since 1931. A popular game bird, they are primarily in a season since winter.
