Birds of Hungary

There are about 400 species of birds that call Hungary their home. These avian species live in the various mountainous regions of the land-locked nation. However, plenty of waterbirds are in the country because the Danube and Tisza rivers flow through it.

Hungary’s national bird is the Saker Falcon. Other notable avifauna include the Black-headed Gull, the White Stork, and several birds of prey like the Common Kestrel, the Eurasian Sparrowhawk, and the European Honey Buzzard.

Several times are suitable to go birding in the country, including during the spring migration from late April to early June, the breeding season from May to July, and autumn from September to October.
