Despite occupying only an overall area of 19,768 sq. mi, Bosnia and Herzegovina is home to over 320 species of birds. A significant contributing factor to such a wide variety of avifauna is the diversity in geography. This includes different types of bedrock, soil, and climate conditions.

The best time to visit Bosnia and Herzegovina is when the heat has gone down, in May to June and early September. Some popular places to see birds include Sutjeska National Park, Una National Park, and Livno Karst Field.
