Comoros, in the Indian Ocean off the east coast of Africa, offers a rich diversity of bird species. Although the islands are relatively small, they are home to various habitats, including rainforests, wetlands, and coastal areas, which attract numerous bird species.
The national bird of the Comoros is the appropriately named Comoro Blue Pigeon. Other notable species include the Malagasy Kingfisher, the Greater Vasa Parrot, and the Comoro White-eye.

One of the best places to go birdwatching in the Comoros Islands is Mount Karthala. It is an active volcano, so visiting it directly is not recommended, but the areas around it attract several endemic species, including the Comoro Blue Vanga and the Comoro White-eye. Another notable place is Anjouan Island, where the forests are home to the endemic Anjouan Scops Owl and Anjouan Sunbird. The best time to go birdwatching in these islands is during the dry season from May to November, as the weather during this period is more predictable, with less rainfall and lower humidity, making it easier to explore the various birding sites.
