Tiger salamanders are amphibians that are found in the South Eastern United States and the west to the Rocky Mountains. Dr. Alan Richmond, the curator of biology and the lecturer at the University of Massachusetts explains the characteristics, food habits, habitat and more about this unique animal. They spend most of their time in elevated burrows and emerge to mate during spring season. The unique bands on the body of this animal resemble stripes seen on tiger which gives the salamander its singular name.
